One of the earliest examples of true psychedelic rock, Eight Miles High was ahead of its time. One would think the song is about drugs, but it is open to multiple interpretations. It possibly looks at a changing society, alienating fronts, or a search for authenticity. In its euphoria, the counterculture was exploring new spiritual and perceptual directions to overcome the disillusionment they felt as prescribed by previous generations. They wanted to rise above the ordinary and find meaning.
